The Waikiki Edition Resort, a new brand from the Marriott family, opened just eight months ago. The ocean front views are unobstructed and the yacht harbor compliments it. Located on the corner of Hobron and Ala Moana Boulevard, the resort category is positioned between the Ritz Carlton and the J.W. labels. To add to the upscale experience, Chef Morimoto, from Iron Chef Japan and Iron Chef America, has opened an exciting restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu is varied and meets a wide variety of taste buds. Perfect for vacation and business guests.

The first PGA tournament of every year, the Hyundai Tournament Of Champions, replaced the Mercedes Championships last year at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui. The winner in 2011 was Jonathan Byrd, a real gentleman, on and off the course. The prestigious tournament will be played in Kapalua once again this January 2-8, 2012. This is a tournament that should not be missed. An excellent event to build your meeting, incentive or leisure group around.
Disney has done it again! They have the golden touch! Disney will be opening their first Hawaii market resort at Koolina, Oahu, next door to the J.W. Marriott, Ihilani Resort. Disney's Aulani Resort will feature 830 sleeping rooms and villas and over 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space. This already successful resort will open at the end of August, 2011. I tried to book a group during the first week of September, 2011 and found that the resort is sold out until mid-October! Talk about a quick jump start! Congratulations to Disney for bringing their special theme to Hawaii and blending the Hawaiian culture and people into every aspect of the resort.
Destination Hawaii has acquired an entire valley in the Kualoa region of Oahu, just 35 minutes away from Waikiki. This facility will offer exclusive use for executive retreats to authentic Hawaiian day and evening events ranging from team building to luaus. This area has ancient loi fields where the Hawaiians used to live and grow taro (kalo) over four hundred years ago and is rich with history and legends. The ocean and a variety of activities are also available to incorporate into any event. Imagine having your own valley to yourself to create an exclusive, culturally rich event designed just for your guests.
The PGA's Sony Open is another excellent event to wrap your meeting, incentive program, or leisure group around. This tournament begins the second weekend of January, right after the Hyundai event on Maui. There are wonderful resorts around the area to accommodate any size group and there is the newly renovated Waialae Country Club to host private functions to make everyone feel exclusive. Sony signed another contract with the club to host this tournament for the next four years.
Well, Hawaii has some of the most talented celebrity chefs in the world. Names like Chef Roy Yamaguchi, Chef Alan Wong, Chef Beverly Gannon.... Now we boast that we have another world renowned chef that calls Hawaii home, from Hiroshima, Japan, Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Chef Morimoto opened his first restaurant in Hawaii in Waikiki called Morimoto, Waikiki, located at the original Ilikai Hotel. Of course we all know that Chef Morimoto is a featured chef on the Iron Chef in Japan and Iron Chef in America. He is considered the very best in the Asian Fusion category. Welcome Chef Morimoto.
